Bengal Islami Life Insurance Limited has formally settled a death claim amounting to £2,100 (BDT 314,000) in Jhenaidah, handing over the cheque to the designated nominee of a deceased policyholder. The policy was held by Constable Akhtaruzzaman, a client of the company’s Jhenaidah branch, whose untimely demise prompted the payout under the terms of his life insurance agreement.
The cheque handover ceremony was conducted at an event organized in Jhenaidah, drawing local dignitaries, business leaders, and company executives. Advocate M. A. Mazid, Administrator of the Jhenaidah District Council and President of the BNP Jhenaidah District unit, attended as the chief guest. In his address, he commended Bengal Islami Life Insurance for its prompt settlement, emphasizing the critical role life insurance plays in guaranteeing financial stability for vulnerable families during sudden bereavements.
Speaking at the occasion, Md. Amin Helali, Vice Chairman of Bengal Islami Life, highlighted the institution’s dual mandate of providing financial security to policyholders and generating employment opportunities across the region. Further elaborating on the company’s operational framework, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer M. M. Monirul Alam Tapan stated that Bengal Islami Life operates strictly under Sharia-compliant principles. The insurer offers Sharia-based Takaful life plans, healthcare coverage, and pension schemes tailored to varied consumer segments. He added that the organization has integrated digital application platforms to streamline customer service, accelerate claim verifications, and enhance user experience.
The event was attended by notable personalities, including former President of the Jhenaidah Chamber of Commerce Nasim Uddin, banker Nurul Islam, Deputy Project Head of Bengal Islami Life Habibur Rahman, and Jhenaidah Office In-charge Md. Shahin Alam, alongside local agents and clients.
Life insurance penetration in Bangladesh has traditionally faced challenges regarding consumer trust and delayed claim processing. The prompt settlement of claims by Sharia-compliant Takaful providers serves to reinforce public confidence in modern ethical banking and insurance models. By leveraging digital tools and adhering to strict Sharia guidelines, life insurers aim to broaden social safety nets for working-class families across non-metropolitan districts.
