Financial Advisers Drive Expansion in Singapore Life Insurance Sector

Advisory channels maintained their position as the primary route for Singaporeans securing life insurance during the first half of 2026, with Financial Advisory (FA) Representatives and Tied Representatives accounting for 79.4% of all newly issued policies. Data released by the Life Insurance Association (LIA), Singapore reveals that these two key distribution channels facilitated a total of 504,951 new policy purchases as consumers systematically reviewed their family protection, medical coverage, and long-term wealth strategies.

Financial Advisory Representatives captured the largest share of weighted new business premiums, registering a 35.9% year-on-year expansion. Premiums generated via independent FA Representatives climbed from 994 million) in the first half of 2025 to 1.35 billion) during the same period in 2026. This significant growth enabled the FA channel to command 37.3% of total weighted new business premiums and 40.8% of the total market sum assured.

Tied Representatives retained their standing as the leading distribution pathway when measured by overall policy volume, securing 40.7% of all new policies sold. Industry analysts noted that this outcome highlights an enduring consumer preference for face-to-face consultation and bespoke financial guidance when navigating multi-faceted insurance plans. Personal interaction continues to play a vital role for policyholders seeking custom-tailored financial products.

Alternative distribution streams also sustained a strong presence across Singapore’s financial sector. Bank Representatives accounted for 25.8% of the total sum assured, drawing momentum from long-established bancassurance networks and integrated wealth management solutions. Online Direct Channels contributed 5.2% of the overall sum assured, reflecting steady adoption among tech-savvy policyholders purchasing straightforward protection plans. Direct policy acquisitions completed without any intermediary involvement made up the remaining 0.9% of the market.

Singapore’s life insurance market continues to demonstrate robust momentum, spurred by growing awareness around healthcare costs, retirement income security, and estate planning. The marked increase in weighted premiums generated by independent advisory networks illustrates a broader shift towards comprehensive financial planning over standard off-the-shelf policies. In an economic climate characterized by shifting market conditions and increased longevity, policyholders are increasingly relying on accredited advisers to structure resilient portfolios.

Looking ahead, LIA officials confirmed that industry priorities will focus on ensuring the long-term sustainability of health insurance schemes while broadening public financial literacy. Meeting the evolving healthcare and financial needs of an ageing population remains central to market stability. Empowering citizens with essential financial knowledge ensures Singaporeans have the clarity and confidence required to make sound choices regarding family protection, medical care, and long-term financial stability.
